Claus Residential Quarters

(As Arthur Christmas has yet to be released on dvd, this post is going to be really lacking in the images. FOR NOW. )

You know storm shelters? The doors on them? A set of doors like that opens up to a set of stairs... made of ice.

After you walk down the stairs you get to an entire hallway made of ice. Noticing a trend? This hallway leads to several rooms. Arthur's parents' room, his older brother's room, Grandsanta's room, a kitchen, dining room, and living room, so on and so forth. And, wouldn't you know it, all of the floors, walls, and ceilings are carved from ice. Even most of the picture frames.

The furniture, however, is all actual non-ice furniture, as are the doors.

Each bedroom has its own bathroom.

Most of the rooms, though furnished very nicely, are a bit... utilitarian in decoration. That is, except Arthur's room. CHRISTMAS STUFF EVERYWHERE. His room is so cozy you almost forget how darn cold it is.

At the far end of the hallway, where the door to the other areas of the North Pole compound were, there's... dirt. No fancy way of signaling the end of Arthur's home, just the rest of the underground-ness that normally would have been there. Big dirt wall. Charming.

Aww yeah, lookit them ice walls. Fancy.

Currently, Arthur is the only person living here.

Other Characters: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit

Name:  Arthur
From: Arthur Christmas
Appearance:

Age: Early to mid twenties
Gender: Male

Personality: Arthur is kind, caring, and naive. He is full of childlike joy about everything, but most importantly Christmas. He is constantly surrounded by Christmas, has been his entire life, but instead of becoming jaded like the rest of his family, he is all about it. That spirit of gift-giving and togetherness is alive and well in Arthur. He is clumsy, dorky, and not as smart and efficient as his older brother, which caused him to be sort of cast off to the side and somewhat ignored growing up, but he doesn't mind. He doesn't see the bad in situations, only the good. He loves his family, and despite the teasing, they do love him back, and that's all that matters. The only thing that can really break his spirit is the knowledge that he has really and truly let someone down. Every single person matters to him. If one child is upset then it doesn't matter that it's only one out of several billion. That kid still is just as important as all the others, and he'll do whatever it takes to fix things.

Backstory: Arthur is Santa's son. 'Santa Claus' is a title, passed down from generation to generation, through his family. While they do have slightly extended lifespans, they are by no means eternal or anything of that sort. In recent years, Arthur's older brother Steve has completely revamped and upgraded how business at the North Pole works. No longer does Santa fly around single handed in a sleigh pulled by reindeer, but instead the gifts are delivered by Santa and a host of thousands of elves in the spaceship-like S1. The entire operation has been streamlined into a military-esque business, with Steve leading everything. Arthur, being highly prone to accident, had been transferred to Letters. He didn't mind it. Reading and responding to all those letters from children was absolutely wonderful! In his mind, it was a very important job. After all, without the letters how would any of the elves know what to send to each child? Not to mention the times he got to respond back. Just imagining the children's faces when they rush to the mailbox and find a letter from the North Pole, that look of absolute ecstasy kids get when they truly believe, it made it all worth it. He did, of course, wish he could do even more to help, but he trusted his dad, brother, and the elves to make everything perfect for each child. He was happy, and whenever his dad retired Steve would become the new Santa, which would make them happy, and everyone would be happy.

All this was fine and dandy, until the year a child was missed. After the S1 had returned to the North Pole, a bicycle was discovered that had been left behind. Arthur could absolutely not stand for this. Think of the poor little girl who wakes up on Christmas morning with no presents, thinking she's the only person on Earth Santa forgot about? Steve tried convincing Arthur and Santa that the percentage that one kid, one kid, out of the entire world equals to is so negligible there's no need to worry about it. After all, the S1 couldn't make it back to her house in time anyway. Needless to say, this did not sit well with Arthur. His grandfather, or Grandsanta as they call him, revealed he has kept the old sleigh hidden this whole time, and they took off.

What should have been a relatively simple trip down to the UK turned disastrous. They got lost several times, and pretty much everything that could go wrong did go wrong. In the end he was able to get the gift to the girl just in the nick of time. His dad and Steve both agreed that, as he was willing to risk even his life, because he cared so much for everyone, he deserved to be the next Santa. Steve would continue working as the brains behind everything, but it would be Arthur who was in charge of the delivering.

Moral Standing: Good. Very good. Good to a fault.
Dreams: Arthur just wants everyone to be happy. If he can do something, or give something up, or anything, to make one person happy, he'll do it.
Fears: He's afraid of messing up when it really counts. Messing up when it doesn't count? He's used to that. It happens on a regular basis for him. Leaving a door open, tripping over something and breaking it, that's his every day. But if he were to let someone down he would feel absolutely terrible.
Extra: It should be noted that he isn't on a Buddy the Elf level of Christmas joy and naivety. He's more like that annoying guy who puts his Christmas tree up the weekend of Halloween and is just really excited about things for the rest of the year.

Samples: There aren't really many clips yet on youtube, but here's a couple.
